Job Title Data Science Senior Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) Summary As a Data Science Senior Advisor, you will advance SCE’s wildfire risk modeling practice by developing and enhancing wildfire risk models, providing model risk management, and supporting innovation of new tools and technologies. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders, SMEs, project managers, and external teams to transform data into critical information that informs business decisions. Details Hiring Manager: Zining Yang Job Abbreviation: BOP940_P5_E Pay Grade: Exempt - 37 Pay Range: $182,800.00 - $274,100.00 Responsibilities Partner with stakeholders to understand business problems and objectives and translate them into data science solutions, providing thought leadership and creativity in solving unconventional problems. Lead and provide direction to other analytic teams across the organization, spearheading development of highly complex predictive and prescriptive models to drive data insights. Define new data collection sources and methods and make strategic recommendations for data practices (collection, preparation, quality). Establish standards and identify techniques to solve data quality and integrity problems. Lead development and maintenance of models, tools, and methods for highly complex analytics problems. Engage business OUs to solve critical issues and identify optimization opportunities, performing sophisticated analytics and translating findings into actionable insights. Apply machine learning concepts and author production-level code to provide innovative ideas and research to improve decision making. Identify opportunities to apply data science and predictive analytics to help solve the most critical business challenges. Establish scalable, automated processes for large‑scale data analysis, modeling, validation, and implementation. Leverage relationships with data science professionals at other utilities and vendors, and participate and present in relevant industry forums and groups to promote SCE’s approach. A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or Business Analytics. Seven or more years of experience in data analytics related work. PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, business analytics = 2 years of experience credit. Preferred Qualifications Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or Computational Social Science. Broad understanding of the electric utility industry and its regulatory environment, as well as the wildfire risk modeling domain, methodology, tools, and data. Five or more years hands‑on experience working in data science or advanced analytics roles, including experience with machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and ML Ops. Experience with simulation techniques including Agent‑Based Modeling (ABM), System Dynamics (SD), Complex Adaptive System (CAS), etc. Experience with various risk management tools and frameworks such as Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA), Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (FMEA), CPUC’s Risk‑Based Decision‑Making Framework, Wildfire Mitigation Plans (WMP), etc. Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, Snowflake, SAP, Palantir, PowerBI, and ArcGIS. Strong executive communication skills, including developing concise reports and presenting insights to senior leadership, delivering technical content to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Additional Information This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.
