Responsibilities
- Conduct metallurgical testing, research, and investigations to ensure product quality and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Assist the Chief Metallurgist with testing alloys for physical characteristics such as tension, compression, impact, bending, and fatigue to ensure compliance with manufacturing specifications and standards.
- Perform analytical studies of metals and alloys, including examination of grain structure, inclusions, impurities, cracks, and other defects.
- Analyze operating records, test reports, and conduct personal observations to verify adherence to established procedures and standards.
- Prepare detailed reports on findings, including deviations from specifications, and recommend corrective actions for approval.
- Investigate and propose methods to improve metallurgical processes and manufacturing efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to develop cost-effective manufacturing methods.
- Review customer quotes for feasibility and conduct material capability studies.
- Actively participate in Spuncast’s Continuous Improvement Plan and contribute to team initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned and uphold Spuncast’s Core Values.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Familiarity with quality and cost control, inspection and analysis of incoming materials, and sampling processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, journals, and a variety of instructions.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
