Details Medical Oncology progressive care unit with 36 telemetry beds, over 24 dedicated to PCU-level care Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology cases; rare pediatric patients typically cared for by permanent staff Day (3x12, 7:00-19:30) or Night (3x12, 19:00-7:30) shifts, with possible rotation between days and nights based on department needs reviewed every 4-week period Staffing ratios of approximately 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU, subject to unit needs Required to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps Epic charting system experience required Weekend shifts are variable Requirements Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months, including at least 1 year of PCU experience Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program Required skills include dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team use, feeding tube management, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management, external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drain care, and non-invasive airway management Teaching hospital experience preferred Oncology experience preferred but not required Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor and the second acceptable from a Charge RN; coworker references not accepted Additional Information Provide high-acuity progressive care and telemetry nursing to an oncology patient population with a strong focus on infection prevention and fall prevention protocols Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued; previous travel experience preferred but not required First-time travelers are welcome to apply Must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly upon signing contract; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet RTO must be submitted with the contract and built in prior to start, limited to 7 days or less Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible for travel assignment Local candidates are accepted at the same pay rate American Traveler Job ID P-748957.
