Job Summary GGH Level 1 RN Med/Surg 2W - FT D/N Geneva NY 14456 14 Weeks Short Description Med/Surg RN Full Time (36 hours) 2 on call shifts in 4 weeks D/N/W/Holidays Required: NYS RN Licensure Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS (AHA or RQI only), NIHSS. 3x12s day/night shift variable (scheduled as needed by client) + EOW, Holiday, + 2 On Call shifts per 4 weeks. Complete Description The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient’s episode. The RN on 3 North develops specialized skill in the area of patients admitted for medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The 3 North RN is accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self‑care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The 3 North Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment. Responsibilities Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care. Assesses patient and family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and the analysis of data obtained through direct observation, assessment, technology, or health team communication. Creates a developmentally and age‑appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care; sets goals and monitors the patient’s progress; and adjusts the plan based on patient response or changes in condition. Promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome. Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual’s education, training, and scope of practice. Understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. Motivates the patient/family by teaching them what is needed to continue care/healing at home. Assesses the patient/family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding. Seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information; asks questions to evaluate retention of key points; provides tools and information to assist the patient’s family after discharge; and documents the education provided and the patient/family response. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery. Engages in self‑evaluation of practice, identifies strengths and areas for professional development, takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill, and uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions. Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patient/family. Seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present, listening, communicating, engaging, and anticipating patient/family needs; strives to understand what is most important to the patient/family; acknowledges that the patient and family are the central focus of all care and services; and embraces the importance of creating a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice. Demonstrates skill in application of interventions including medication administration. Qualifications BLS, ACLS, NYS RN Licensure required. One year of experience serving in a Med/Surg environment as a Registered Nurse required. Workplace Safety Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated.
