Description: The unit is an Emergency Room with a Trauma Level designation. There are 45 beds, including hallway and vertical rooms. The facility has a separate triage area but travelers do not triage. Patients are intermixed within the ER and there are separate psychiatric rooms. Security is present in-house 24/7. An average of 170 patients are treated in the ER each day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5. Common patient diagnoses include stroke, STEMI, trauma, and abdominal pain. Nurses will manage, stabilize, and ship pediatric patients. Common drips include Nicardipine, Propofol, Fentanyl, Norepinephrine, Nitroglycerin, Versed, and Precedex. Each shift has at least one physician and APP available. CNA support is available to assist with EKGs, phlebotomy, and wound care but not irrigation. Respiratory Therapy services are available 24/7, managing all equipment. Nurses are required to read and interpret telemetry. X-ray and CT services are available in the ER; critical patients are transported unless otherwise indicated. RNs and CNAs or phlebotomists will conduct lab draws. Scheduling includes 12-hour shifts and may vary based on needs. Weekends require a minimum of 4 Saturday/Sunday shifts within 6 weeks. Holiday staffing is as needed. There is no standby requirement, but floating to other ERs may occur. The dress code is clean and professional without specific color requirements. Orientation includes a unit-specific shift following general training.
