Job Goal To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. To establish effective rapport with pupils. To motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability. To create a learning environment that encourages appropriate standards of behavior, positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation. To foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and families to support students’ learning. To reflect on his/her practice and assume responsibility for his/her own professional development by actively seeking opportunities to learn and grow as a professional. Performance Responsibilities Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science to pupils in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs. Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress. Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records. Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program. Participate in curriculum development programs as required. Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities. Fulfill any other responsibility as defined in the Teachers’ labor agreement. Position Type Full-time Job Qualifications Rhode Island Teaching Certification. Undergraduate Degree in Education. Maintain Professional Development Credits as required by contract and certification. Job Requirements At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred. Bachelor degree preferred. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
