It's more than a career, it's a calling MO-SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital Worker Type: Regular Job Summary Provides technical scrub skills in the operating room during surgical procedures and assists the surgical team as needed in any other capacity, according to established procedures. Must be energetic and highly motivated to support the success of Saint Louis University Hospital. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate professionalism and maintain safety and infection control standards, including universal precautions and proper disposal of hazardous waste. Scrub and operate any procedure in the primary cluster skillfully. Operate all equipment in primary cluster and use computer for data entry. Cooperate with other personnel and maintain good employee relations. Assist ACU and PACU and other departments as requested. Maintain a clutter‑free environment, keep conversations and background noise to a minimum, adhere to dress code, and report risk management concerns. Continuously carry out annual mandatory safety and infection control training (Safety/Fire, Blood Borne Pathogen, Hazardous Communication, TB, Department Specific, Age Appropriate Care). Provide service excellence: demonstrate courtesy, respond promptly to patient needs, communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, and impart accurate reporting. Utilize resources wisely, recommend cost‑effective changes, and minimize overtime. Participate in performance improvement activities and contribute to quality assessment. Provide age‑appropriate care for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, following safety measures and communication techniques suitable for each age group. Assist in the planning process and discharge planning with geriatric patients. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent (preferred). Prior experience or graduation from an approved surgical technician program (preferred). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Ability to work rapid pace between operating rooms, adhere to dress code, and use protective clothing. Proficiency in handling electrical equipment, hot/cold materials, and chemical agents in accordance with safety data sheets. Strong organization, planning, judgment, problem solving, and safety awareness skills. Capability to tolerate prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and to transfer and carry adult patients and equipment; ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds.
