Sr. Application Engineer SME – Solutions Offers Hybrid position with occasional travel to the Wendell, NC office. Responsibilities Train and grow engineering teams in all hubs established by the core U.S. engineering team for the relevant product lines. Work with the regional organization to meet and exceed engineering quality and other KPIs for assigned products. Coordinate with regional management to ensure appropriate performance of remote teams. Provide input to the Process & Data Management (PDM) team to enable effective process training materials. Provide input to the Product Standardization (PS) team to design, maintain, and enhance design guidelines and standard part libraries for electrical components and mechanical assemblies. Provide input to the Digital Knowledgebase (DKB) team to enhance rules, interlockings, and standards within product configurators. Own and manage the hub employee cost centers for the product lines against planned budgets as aligned with the teams. Create and maintain a skills matrix for the hub team of engineers to ensure employee development and growth. Identify training gaps and develop training classes to address learning opportunities. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering. 10+ years of experience supporting application engineering teams with solutions proposals. 3+ years of relevant front‑end quotations experience. Ability to analyze customer technical specifications and single‑line diagrams, apply appropriate product offerings to meet expectations cost‑effectively and timely, and offer alternative solutions to optimize profitability. Basic financial knowledge to understand and participate in ongoing business planning and support the product and project lifecycle management processes. Ability to identify market trends and, using this information, work closely with Marketing and Technology to create and justify projects to close identified gaps. Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft Office tools, and willingness to learn product configuration and pricing applications. Travel required – 10‑15%. Preferred Qualifications Excellent collaboration, leadership, and decision‑making skills in a team environment, and demonstrated ability to perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent customer service. Excellent communication skills to effectively and accurately communicate with internal and external customers. Prior experience with leading a team or working in a training or mentorship capacity. 3+ years of experience with quotations or other front‑end activities, focusing on power distribution applications. Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for power distribution applications, specifically for medium‑voltage switchgear and transformer applications. Experience in the design and application of electrical distribution products focusing on medium‑voltage metal‑clad, metal‑enclosed switchgear products and/or transformers. Knowledge and experience evaluating single‑line drawings, schematics, relay protection & control schemes, communication network diagrams and related engineering documents. 1‑2 years of engineering experience in an EPC, engineering, manufacturing, utility, industrial corporate environment or similar; an advanced degree may substitute for 2 years of experience. Actual wage offered may vary based on budget and candidate experience, skills, and location.
