AV Service Technician

We are seeking an AV Service Technician to support federal and commercial customers in the Washington, DC Metro Area. Salary: $65,000 – $80,000 depending on experience. Discretionary annual bonus based on performance. Location: Washington, DC Metro Area. Some national travel may be required with advance notice (up to 20%). Key Responsibilities Preventative Maintenance & Ongoing Support Perform Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) to help maintain stable, client‑based systems Serve as point of contact for all pre‑ and post‑integration service and support Setup and troubleshoot various video codecs and video teleconferencing systems (e.g., Poly, Cisco) Provide field service support of networked devices (Routers, IP Protocols, etc.) Communicate with internal VersaTech team and manufacturers/OEMs to work through system faults Load and test control system code and DSP programming Troubleshoot leveraging computer, networking, and communication skills Client Engagement & Training Provide end‑user client training as needed Train and mentor junior and new team members Communicate regularly and effectively with customers, teammates, and internal resources Install Support (35%) Support AV installations including field installation of AV hardware and systems as designed Perform cable installation, cable termination, and device installation Perform site surveys, inventory, and create as‑built documentation for installed systems Interpret AV CAD drawings and update with Red Lines Read and understand cabling pull schedules, floor plans, ceiling plans, riser diagrams, and line diagrams Work with AV Engineers analyzing blueprints and AV input/output (IO) Configure standard system components to client requirements Travel to various job sites as required In‑House Rack Fabrication & Quality Assurance (10%) Assist with in‑house rack fabrication, wiring, and assembly Perform Quality Assurance testing on fabricated systems and generate supporting documentation Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints Update inventory documentation and support VersaTech delivery logistics as needed Documentation, Training & Industry Engagement (10%) Documentation Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date as‑built documentation, service reports, and project records Complete service tickets, maintenance logs, and quality assurance reports in a timely manner Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and knowledge base articles Training & Professional Development Participate in ongoing technical training to maintain and advance AV industry certifications (e.g., CTS) Support onboarding and skills development of junior technicians and new team members Attend internal training sessions, lunch‑and‑lunches, and knowledge‑sharing activities Industry Engagement Stay current with emerging AV technologies, products, and industry best practices Engage with manufacturer and OEM partner resources, webinars, and certification programs Represent VersaTech professionally at client sites and industry events as appropriate Required Qualifications 4+ years of experience installing and supporting large‑scale audio‑visual systems Experience working with digital video/audio transmission and protocols Experience with AV systems such as Poly, Cisco, Crestron, or Extron Experience with signal flow, audio‑visual signal types, connector types, and terminations Experience working with AV Engineers, analyzing blueprints and AV IO Experience loading and testing control system code and DSP programming Ability to configure standard system components to client requirements Ability to work independently for AV testing and troubleshooting Ability to interpret AV CAD drawings and update with Red Lines Ability to troubleshoot leveraging computer, networking, and communication skills Ability to read and understand cabling pull schedules, floor plans, ceiling plans, riser diagrams, and line diagrams Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client engagement and customer service Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance Active driver’s license and good driving record Ability to travel locally to DMV area client locations and corporate office Preferred Qualifications Experience working with a government client or as a government contractor CTS Certified Secret Security Clearance Education Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical Field, or 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree Physical Requirements May be required to lift up to 75 pounds May be required to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shift Employees may use carts, dollies, hand trucks, and other gear to move items around Must hold an active driver’s license and maintain a good driving record VersaTech offers an excellent benefits package that includes 401k employer‑matching retirement contributions, generous paid time off (3 weeks PTO plus 11 holidays), and ample growth opportunities.
