MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC LEADER in Spring Valley

Duties Apply a variety of methods, procedures, and techniques to layout, install, align, overhaul, repair, and maintain numerous types of marine machinery, equipment, and systems. Utilize and apply standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories, and industry practices to calculate needed materials and solve problems. Use various test equipment and measuring devices such as alignment scopes, verniers, micrometers, precision levels, transits, strobe tachometers, bearing bridge gauges, flow meters, hydrostatic testers, and vibration analyzers. Set up and operate machine tools such as small lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and precision grinders to manufacture component parts or remachine existing parts such as bushings, bearings, seals, couplings, and pistons. Operate machine tools for onsite milling, grinding, boring, facing, and drilling, and use various portable machine tools to accomplish repairs. Disassemble, repair, and rebuild components and assemblies such as shafts, propellers, rudders, engines, and sea valves. Operate machinery and equipment for launching and arresting gear systems, missile handling and launch systems, torpedo tubes, periscopes, antennas, sonar, and radar equipment, and shipboard equipment. Interpret and apply the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop directives, multiview blueprints, and other documents to determine critical dimensions and reference points. Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen and determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Must be able to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance. Must be able to pass a pre‑appointment physical examination. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasize quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
