EXAM NUMBER: M0833A-R-FR The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires, including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to assist the County in mobilizing resources and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild. POSITION SUMMARY Emergency Management Coordinator I, CEO vacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster. Applicants will be processed on an as-received basis and those who meet the requirements may be hired on a temporary basis for up to 90 days. Prior to the end of the temporary work period, an assessment based on performance will be conducted. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the research, development, analysis, and maintenance of emergency and disaster plans, policies, and procedures. Assist in the planning, designing, and executing of disaster and emergency response and recovery exercises and training. Assist in recommending the utilization of emergency response personnel, equipment, and supplies during emergencies. Assist in coordinating the response to active emergencies and disasters from the County Emergency Operations Center or a Field Incident Command Post. Develops and writes reports and correspondence; and maintains and provides disaster and emergency information to representatives of government agencies, community groups, business organizations, and the public. Develops and prepares emergency information sheets, brochures, procedures manuals, and checklists. Assist and advise schools, industry groups, the public, and various groups in disaster preparedness efforts and ensures readiness of emergency operations personnel, facilities, and equipment. Communicate verbally, in writing, or through graphic representations with County management, staff, the public, organized groups, and representatives of various agencies. Participate in emergency exercises and assist in training emergency services workers. Operate emergency equipment communications systems and coordinate emergency response materials and personnel. Serve on a rotational basis as a Duty Officer responsible for coordinating and monitoring the County's response to any emergency or disaster that impacts the Los Angeles County Operational Area. Move supplies and equipment to facilitate information, disaster preparedness, and disaster recovery efforts. Walk or climb over uneven surfaces to assess damage after a disaster as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Option I: Graduation from an accredited college with a Master's degree in Homeland Security or Emergency Management. Option II: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of experience providing technical staff support assisting with technical and administrative tasks related to an emergency management, emergency response, disaster recovery or disaster preparedness program. Option III: Five (5) years of experience providing technical staff support assisting with technical and administrative tasks related to an emergency management, emergency response, disaster recovery or disaster preparedness program, three (3) of which must have been at the level of Program Specialist I, CEO or higher. OTHER REQUIREMENTS IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System, IC-100 IS-120.C: An Introduction to Exercises IS-200.C: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, IC-200 IS-230.E: Fundamentals of Emergency Management IS-235.C: Emergency Planning IS-240.C: Leadership and Influence IS-241.C: Decision Making and Problem Solving IS-242.C: Effective Communication IS-244.B: Developing and Managing Volunteers IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System IS-800.D: National Response Framework, An Introduction Please note: FEMA courses are subject to periodic updates. Applicants must show they have completed the most current FEMA course. In order to receive credit for any certifications, you MUST attach a legible copy of your certificate at the time of filing or within seven (7) calendar days from application submission. LICENSE A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job‑related essential functions. PHYSICAL CLASS Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS *In order to receive credit for a Bachelor's Degree or higher degree, you MUST attach a legible copy of your “official” diploma, official transcripts, or official letter from an accredited institution which shows the area of specialization at the time of filing. EXAMINATION CONTENT Near the end of your temporary assignment, the appointing department will evaluate your performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be placed on a list and considered for permanent appointment.
