About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 16 weeks Shift: 12 hours Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years recent ICU experience required License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Ability to pass an exam during orientation - Compliance with fingernail policy: artificial nails are prohibited - Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips Description: Interview with unit leaders is required. Candidate must have 2 years of recent ICU experience. A driver’s license is required for identification purposes. Fingernail policy prohibits artificial nails in patient care settings. Refusal to comply with this policy will lead to contract termination. Registered Nurses will take a pass/fail exam during orientation. This is an open-book exam covering skills learned. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass the exam, or termination will occur. The unit comprises 34 beds with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:1-2 in ICU. Nurses will care for adults and patients over 15 years of age. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, and general surgery cases. Nurses are required to titrate drips such as vasopressors and sedation medications. A charge nurse is present on each shift and will take assignment duties. Patient care techs are available on the unit with defined ratios. Registered Nurses will need to troubleshoot respiratory equipment. There are no telemetry techs; nurses must read telemetry strips themselves. Shifts are from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630. The schedule will be created based on unit needs, not self-scheduled. Weekend requirements include every other weekend. Holiday requirements are two out of three major holidays. Nurses may float to all inpatient units, excluding specific areas. Dress code is navy blue scrubs. Two shifts of department-specific orientation will be provided. The working environment is fast-paced, requiring critical thinking and a positive attitude. Attributes that foster team collaboration and high-quality care are essential for success in this role. Request for time off must be provided upfront and additional requests will not be approved. The hospital can cancel shifts as specified during assignments. Charting system in use is EPIC. A BSN degree is not required for this position. This is an acute care setting.
