Email Routing L3 Support Engineer - Linux

job summary:
We are hiring a Level 3 Email Routing Support Engineer to join our core Linux-based email infrastructure team. As senior members of our established team prepare for retirement, we are seeking a strong technical lead who can maintain operational continuity (BAU) for our legacy environment while helping drive modernizations for our messaging architecture.

This position is structured with a direct path toward FTE conversion, making it ideal for an experienced engineer seeking a long-term home.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

L3 Incident Resolution & Support (BAU): Serve as the final escalation point for complex email delivery failures, mail flow deferrals, and routing misconfigurations.

MTA & Gateway Administration: Maintain and tune Proofpoint secure email gateways, alongside Sendmail and Postfix mail transfer agents running on Linux.

Legacy Application Support: Troubleshoot legacy Windows Server email routing configurations and application-generated mail flow to ensure seamless relaying to our Linux core.

Modernization & Automation: Identify opportunities to upgrade legacy Sendmail/Postfix rules, implement modern authentication standards (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), and automate queue monitoring via Bash, Python, or PowerShell.

Knowledge Transfer & Succession: Work closely with retiring senior engineers to document legacy system architectures, custom routing maps, and standard operating procedures.

 Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot messaging applications and supporting

technologies.

 Ensure availability, reliability, and performance of messaging systems in accordance with

established SLAs.

 Support SMTP email processing, mail routing, delivery, and message hygiene services.
