Registered Nurse, RN - Mother Infant Unit (MIU)

Registered Nurse, RN – Mother Infant Unit Job type: Full‑time, 36 hours per week, day/night rotating shifts. Responsibilities Utilizes theoretical and evidence-based knowledge in partnering with patients and their families to assess, plan, implement and evaluate age appropriate care. Assesses and collaborates with patient, family/significant others and other disciplines to identify expected outcomes and cultural needs for a care plan. Plans and develops individualized outcomes‑based care plans; orchestrates and validates a plan of care for each shift; initiates interdisciplinary patient/family meetings; communicates and coordinates the patient’s discharge plan. Implements the plan in a safe and timely manner; documents implementation and modifications; collaborates with nursing colleagues; utilizes evidence-based interventions and treatments specific to the diagnosis or problem; provides health teaching; documents per hospital and regulatory requirements. Evaluates the effectiveness of the planned strategies, updates the plan of care as needed. Demonstrates and applies judgment to implement the nursing plan of care, interventions, and procedures necessary for patient and family care. Performs procedures and treatments using nursing knowledge and judgment, according to established guidelines and professional standards. Safely administers and assesses patient response to medication, applying knowledge of pharmacology and standards of care. Maintains clinical competency with respect to technology and utilizes equipment safely. Advocates and educates patients and families; provides high‑quality, efficient, and safe care. Participates in hospital/unit‑based patient safety and quality activities, including initiatives such as The Joint Commission, NPSGs, NDNQI, and Patient First. Participates in performance improvement activities through data collection, analysis, and evaluation. Champions quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and patient‑family satisfaction. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships among disciplines; supports effective quality patient care delivery and a positive work environment. Delegates responsibilities to others with an understanding of their roles, knowledge, and capabilities. Influences others to achieve Service Excellence by establishing a climate for optimal patient care, maintaining professional conduct, promoting a safe environment, and acknowledging cultural differences. Participates in professional development and lifelong learning activities to maintain competence and support career goals. May assume charge nurse functions in collaboration with unit leadership. Facilitates communication by sharing job‑related information, maintaining professional conduct, attending staff meetings, and reading emails. Minimum Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) license. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS) relevant to the department and type of care may be required. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Specialty Nursing certifications. Physical Requirements Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients and equipment. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, sick patients, bodily substances, noise, and possible exposure to radiation, lasers, electric shock, etc. Regular exposure to risk of bloodborne diseases and other transmissible infections. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency and crisis situations. Subjected to irregular hours. May have contact with hazardous materials. Skills & Abilities Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns. Ability to provide care for a designated group of patients according to unit guidelines and hospital policies, procedures, and protocols. Knowledge of growth and development; ability to interpret age‑specific data and response to care; provides age‑appropriate communication. Compensation Pay Range: $43.01 - $70.95.
