Security Officer Lead

Schedule: Full Time, Variable Shift, 5×8‑hour or 4×10‑hour shifts per week. Shift differentials: Available for night, weekend, and additional shifts. Location: SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital– Shawnee. Job Summary Provides a reasonably safe and secure environment by offering security services for staff, patients, and premises, and by serving as first responders to urgent facility matters. Offers direction and guidance to officers on shift and acts as mentor and role model for junior officers. Job Responsibilities Assist with training of new staff. Coach, train, and mentor all staff. Champion diversity by demonstrating respect, encouraging learning, and proactively supporting diversity in team building and customer interactions. Act as the first escalation in the chain of command while on duty, using discretion to elevate issues that cannot be resolved. Manage staff scheduling and other administrative duties, ensuring all shift duties and operations are assigned and completed. Conduct investigations as needed, complete reports, follow up on investigations or assign to others in a timely manner, ensuring proper communication. Prioritize duties and requests for service while maintaining safety and security for all persons and property. Review statistical reports and summaries to monitor shift activities and trends. Assist with reviewing and updating security policies and emergency plans, and participate in emergency exercises and drills. Promote visitor and employee safety by performing door checks, detecting lighting deficiencies, confirming proper operation of elevators and other equipment, and assisting disruptive individuals. Provide extra attention and monitor matters that are security‑sensitive or involve heightened security concerns. Ensure continuous compliance with accreditation standards, federal and state laws, including agencies such as the Joint Commission, CMS, and OSHA. Provide professional customer service when dealing with complex and dynamic situations approached by staff or clients. Assist with problem solving, provide customer assistance, monitor safety, respond to complaints, and use a proactive approach to identifying safety and security hazards. Assist law enforcement, corrections, and other officials when necessary, while ensuring compliance and patient rights. Troubleshoot access control, alarm, and video management system issues, applying common fixes, triaging problems, and identifying future installation needs. Maintain proficient knowledge of printing/managing badge access system. Operate a motor vehicle to patrol, as needed. Maintain a constant state of alertness and perform work safely. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience High School diploma or GED, or ten (10) years of work experience. Minimum of three (3) years' experience required. Additional Requirements Following the extension of a conditional offer, applicants must successfully complete a psychological assessment to confirm suitability for the rigors of providing security services as set forth in this job description. Proof of motor vehicle liability insurance meeting minimum state requirements is required upon hire and on request. Physical Requirements Constant use of hearing to receive oral communication and hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. Constant use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more). Constant lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0‑25 lbs. Frequent use of speech to share information through oral communication. Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25‑50 lbs. Frequent standing, twisting and walking. Frequent use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and identify and distinguish colors. Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, reaching, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing over 50 lbs. Occasional keyboard use/data entry. Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors. Occasional driving. Rare crawling, running and lifting/moving patients. Required Licenses and Certifications Illinois– Driving Record (MVR) and Driver License issued in the United States; Firearm Owner Identification Card (FOID); Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC); or Active Law Enforcement Officer. Missouri (except St.Charles County)– Driving Record (MVR) and Driver License issued in the United States. Missouri (St.Charles County)– Driving Record (MVR), Driver License, and Security Officer License (St.Charles County) or (St.Louis Metropolitan Police Department). Oklahoma and Wisconsin– Driving Record (MVR) and Driver License issued in the United States.
