Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Position Overview

Newark City Schools is seeking passionate and qualified Intervention Specialists to join its special education team for the 2025–2027 school years. We currently have five openings across multiple grade levels and service models, providing educators with the opportunity to support students in inclusive and self-contained classroom settings.

• 1 Moderate Disabilities (MD) Self-Contained Classroom

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

• Develop, implement, and maintain compliant IEPs and progress reports

• Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to support student success

• Monitor student performance and adjust instructional strategies as needed

• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations

• Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and other required school-based collaboration

• Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes academic and social-emotional growth

Required Qualifications

• Active Ohio educator certificate

• Experience working with students with disabilities in educational settings

• Strong understanding of special education laws, IEP development, and compliance requirements

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

• Ability to effectively manage classroom responsibilities and student caseloads

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in self-contained and/or co-teaching classroom environments

• Familiarity with Moderate Disabilities (MD) programming

• Strong classroom management and behavior support skills

• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and families
