Internship Opportunity

The Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem Vicinage is seeking organized, detail-oriented individuals with excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills to serve as an intern in Judge's Chambers or one of our Divisions (Civil, Criminal, Family, Probation, IT and Operations). Selected candidates will have the opportunity to learn many aspects of case processing and gain practical experience and valuable insight into the judicial process. Internships may be available in the following locations: Cumberland County (Bridgeton, NJ 08302) Gloucester County (Woodbury, NJ 08096) Salem County (Salem, NJ 08079) Please answer all of the required Supplemental Questions to indicate your work location preferences.

Flexible hours for the Fall 2026 semester (tentatively September to December)

Good communication and interpersonal skills are helpful

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams are helpful

Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position (remote work schedule is NOT applicable to this role). Travel between all 3 counties may be required.

Assist with answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails

Contact and follow up with applicants and/or members of the public

Perform special projects

Conduct research and analysis

Perform computer related work

Collect and enter data

Provide customer service

Draft correspondence and memos

Attend community planning meetings

Organize and scan paper files, and upload into an electronic filing system

Assist staff and perform other duties as directed

Judge's interns are expected to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Judges, Judiciary employees, legal professionals, and the public. Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position (a remote work schedule is NOT applicable to this role). Travel between all 3 counties may be required.

Prepare filings for judge and staff review, including document retrieval, and providing documents to chambers

Conduct research

Analyze data

Draft memoranda

Prepare paperwork and process legal documents

Participate in team projects

Data entry and filing

Observe legal proceedings

Calendar management

Moderate virtual hearings

Undergraduate students who are attending an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. Many schools will give course credit for work experience. Please check with your school regarding receiving credit for unpaid internship work experience.

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds. Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position. Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Special Note: Unpaid intern applicants who are 18 years of age or older must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.
