Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (IMC/PCU/Stepdown)

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Days | 12-Hour Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 16-bed step down unit with a patient population including cardiac (post-cath stents/interventions, pacers), CIWA/BH, sepsis, DKA, CVA, CPAP, feeding tubes, post-craniotomy (POD 2), GI bleeds, and hypothermic/bear hugger patients
• Perform telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation; travelers are required to pass telemetry competency tests
• Initiate and titrate drips including antiarrhythmics, Heparin, and Insulin
• Conduct post-surgical assessments, NIHSS/neuro assessments, and dysphagia screenings
• Float within skillset as first to float; cross-campus float to a nearby campus (approximately 8 miles) and potential float to a Kentucky campus (approximately 11 miles) with a minimum 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is possible
• Adhere to weekend and holiday rotation requirements: three weekends per six-week schedule and every other holiday; may be required to precept students and new hires as this is a teaching facility

Required Qualifications

• Current, active compact RN license required
• AHA BLS certification required
• AHA ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year of step down experience
• At least 1 prior travel assignment required; Trauma Level II experience required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start)
• Must reside at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with stable home vents, PleurX/pericardial drains, lumbar drains, and VP shunts
• Experience managing Narcan drips
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills with the ability to manage change effectively
• Collaborative, resilient, and team-oriented work style
