Are you looking for a practice that gives you autonomy and support?  In operation since 1953, Bolton Vet is still privately owned by a partner group of full-time veterinarians.  We have 16 Associate DVMs, an operations team led by the Hospital Manager and five experienced supervisors, and dedicated support teams for Human Resources, Business & IT Operations and Administration & Inventory Management. 

Compensation range is wide depending on experience, skill set & area of focus (primary care/urgent care or emergency plus desire/ability to work on exotics, surgery, dentistry,etc.)  

Range begins at $142,140 for GP-track recent graduates to $200,000+ for experienced emergency vet.

Our Location 

Bolton Veterinary Hospital is located in Bolton, CT. Our location is perfect for a quick 15-minute drive into the lively downtown of West Hartford to enjoy local shops and great restaurants. Even closer are many options for kayaking, hiking at one of the many beautiful parks nearby or biking on the rails to trails or the East Coast Greenway.  Whether you prefer the serenity of quiet open spaces or woods, we really do have it all.  Our practice is also conveniently located 90 minutes from Boston which give you the option for a fun day trip or quick getaway weekend.  We hate to brag, but when you're just a few hours from Block Island, Cape Cod, NYC, Rhode Island, Southern Vermont, New Hampshire & Maine, it’s hard!

Practice Overview 

What started as a small, local practice is now a bustling and busy hospital that’s open 24/7/365 and boasts a staff of over 100, a structured mentorship program for new veterinarians, diverse cases each day, shadowing opportunities for those interested in pursuing veterinary sciences and a separate location dedicated to dentals. 

Our daily goal is for pets to have healthier lives through excellent medicine and compassionate care.  We are able to do this because of the incredibly skilled, caring and hardworking team here.  Some have been BVH’ers for decades, and some are brand new; all are here because of their dedication to providing care for animals and clients in need.

We are dedicated to remaining a privately owned veterinary hospital offering premiere medical, surgical, and emergency services while being an employer of choice in our state.

If you enjoy a variety of caseloads, our practice sees anywhere from general practice, to urgent care and emergency cases. We have an in-house laboratory with digital cytology, full oxygen cages with climate control, endoscope, dental suites, in-house ultrasound just under a specialist level, access to in-house internal medicine specialists, digital X-ray and dental, ECG services on site, and right down the road is our dedicated dental facility. We also offer acupuncture as well as low-level laser therapy.

What Does it Look Like?

I’m into wellness and urgent care:

• Scheduled 4 days a week 

• No late nights!  This clinic closes at 6 PM

• One Saturday a month & no on-call expectations

• Perform general wellness & same-day-sick exams

• Ability to hospitalize here if something unexpected pops up 

• Collaborating with team members on patient care 

• Educating clients on proper care for their pets with a focus on preventative care

• Building rewarding, long term relationships with clients and their animals.

Emergency is my jam:

• Diagnose, treat, and manage a wide variety of small animal cases

• No rechecks - you get to focus on emergency medicine

• Our Hospitalist cares for your patients after your shift

• You can do your own surgeries!  The case isn’t transferred to another department or team.

• Overnights, first and second shifts available

• You have a team of other DVMs on site for support and collaboration on cases

• You will see a full spectrum of emergent & critical cases that allow you to grow and challenge your practice of medicine.  You’ll never be bored and there is an abundance of collaborative support!

• Routine visits monthly from boarded locum cardiologist & internists

Qualifications 

• Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited program is required 

• Being licensed or able to become licensed in the state of Connecticut is required 

• New graduates are encouraged to apply! 

• Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members

• Strong surgical skills a plus

• Prior experience working in general practice, urgent care, or emergency setting is excellent, and we are also open to new grads
