Senior Field Service Technician

As a Senior Field Service Technician, you will drive the implementation of our water and vapor treatment technologies in the field and support operations pilot demonstration units. You will partner with Project Managers to review project scope of work, roles and responsibilities, and safety. You will apply environmental engineering principles to modify, test, and operate equipment and devices used to prevent, control, and remediate environmental problems, including waste treatment and site remediation, under the direction of engineering staff or scientists. This position may assist in the development of environmental remediation devices. The annual compensation range is $80,000-$90,000, depending on experience, skills, and geographic location. This position is based in Portland, ME. A Day in the Life Leads and independently performs complex field engineering and technical activities, including equipment inspections, startup and commissioning support, fabrication progress evaluations, vendor and supplier site audits, construction inspections, field verification measurements, site assessments, troubleshooting, and data collection. Serves as a technical lead in the field by coordinating with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and operational objectives. Performs operations and maintenance of environmental treatment equipment including pumps, filters, tanks, pressure vessels, and other process unit operations. Possesses a general understanding of system hydraulics, mechanical operation/functionality and instrumentation/electrical control schemes. Supports fabrication activities and hands-on setup of bench and pilot testing equipment. Executes piping/skid fabrication in the shop and field, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical system issues or failures. Collects samples using various sampling methods and operates field monitoring equipment including PID/FID, pH, EC, DO, GEM, turbidity, water level, and LEL meters. Measures and records treatment operational data; documents monitoring and testing results on field forms and prepares field daily reports and data sheets. Conducts field monitoring, sampling, testing, and basic evaluations; maintains chain-of-custody documentation and regulatory sample handling; records inspection data in electronic spreadsheets and reports. Ensures proper labeling and handling of hazardous material and waste. Adheres to all safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at required safety training programs. Communicates promptly with Project Managers and stakeholders to inform of site conditions and activities. Interacts with clients as a front-line representative of the company, presents a professional appearance, and wears appropriate PPE on job sites. Participates in the company’s continuous improvement programs and supports team efforts. Keeps up-to-date on industry trends by completing formal training. Performs other duties as assigned. Your Expertise And Skills To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. High School Diploma or equivalent 5+ years of experience performing mechanical/electrical troubleshooting, environmental collection, monitoring, sampling, testing and basic evaluation Valid Class C driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation for travel to project sites NFPA70E Training or willingness to complete Ability/willingness to travel up to 75% Ability to obtain and maintain HAZWOPER certification (40-hour OSHA) and annual 8-hour refresher Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance Proficient with Microsoft Office Ability to deliver and receive electronic documents Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Solid organization and time/project management skills Effective verbal and written communication skills, legible handwriting Able to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with supervision of construction projects Background in electrical, plumbing or other mechanical trades; electrical background preferred Competence in HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems Ability to operate systems via PLC/SCADA Associate’s Degree in Environmental Studies or a related technical certification Working Conditions Physical Demands: The job may require long hours sitting and using office equipment; regular activity includes sitting, talking, and hearing. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; other physical tasks may include bending, standing or walking. Travel up to 75% of the time, typically out of state, Monday to Friday. Occasional multi-week operations with flexible downtime at home. Spreadsheets, reports and other data handling are common activities. Work Environment: Moderate exposure to environmental conditions that impact physical comfort is possible during field work.
