Senior Accountant - Non-Profit Client Bookkeeping (Remote)

Job Summary Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to manage bookkeeping and financial reporting for our non-profit clients. This is a fully remote position, ideal for professionals who excel in maintaining accurate financial records, analyzing financial data, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards for non-profit organizations. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, reconciling accounts, and supporting strategic financial planning. Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple non-profit clients, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations. Prepare accurate financial statements, reports, and summaries in compliance with GAAP or other applicable accounting standards. Monitor budgets, track expenses, and provide variance analysis to clients. Ensure timely preparation and submission of tax filings, donor reports, and regulatory compliance documents. Collaborate with clients and internal teams to improve accounting processes and implement best practices. Support audits by providing documentation and reconciling accounts as needed. Maintain confidentiality and integrity of financial information. Assist in financial planning, forecasting, and reporting to enable strategic decision-making. Required Skills and Qualifications Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred). Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting practices and fund accounting. Advanced proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, or similar). Expertise in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and team members. Experience Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably with non-profit organizations. Proven experience in preparing financial statements, reports, and budget monitoring for multiple clients. Experience with remote work tools and cloud-based accounting systems is highly desirable. Working Hours Full-time, remote position. Flexible schedule with overlapping hours to accommodate client communications across time zones. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Deep understanding of non-profit accounting regulations and compliance requirements. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights. Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to work independently. Ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously while maintaining high accuracy. Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Slack, Google Workspace).
