How you'll contribute

A Cook who excels in this role:

• Performs a variety of tasks that support the delivery of food service and nutritional care to patients, employees, and visitors
• Prepares, seasons, and cooks food for patients, staff, visitors, and special functions
• Reviews menus to determine the types and quantities of food required
• Prepares high-quality food in sufficient quantities to meet all service requirements
• Coordinates preparation timing to meet service schedules for patients, staff, and visitors
• Adheres to standardized recipes and portion controls to minimize food waste and manage food costs
• Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of equipment in food production areas
• Follows sanitation and food safety standards, including HACCP guidelines
• Participates in the ordering and inventory of supplies
• Provides guidance and direction to personnel assisting with food preparation
• Applies knowledge of age-specific patient needs in the performance of duties and responsibilities
• Orients and mentors new staff members
• Follows Standard Precautions and uses personal protective equipment as required

What we're looking for

Education:

• High School graduate or equivalent required.

Experience:

• Two years' experience in food services hospital setting preferred.

Certifications:

• Ability to be ServSafe Certified within 3 months of hire. Also, must re-certify every 3 years.

Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent customer service skills including effective listening skills
• Basic math skills are required
• Knowledge of food sanitation and safety (HACCP Servsafe Certificate)
• Knowledge of food quality through the use of established procedures and guidelines
• Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department
• Ability to motivate personnel, problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner
• Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

Functional Demands:

• Ability to work all shifts required, day or night
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to push a cart loaded with 50 or more pounds
• Must be able to sit long periods of time
• Work requires physical ability such as walking, standing and bending
• Must be able to talk and listen in order to communicate with patients
