Job Description PURPOSE AND SCOPE: It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide thelearning activities and support that will lead to the achievementof the course objectives and contribute to the educationalenvironment of the college and the community. The faculty member'srole encompasses the general areas of learning facilitation,professional development, and institutional service. Primaryresponsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within thecurriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Teaches courses in Biology at a variety of times and locationsin response to institutional needs Makes continuous efforts to improve the quality of instructionby reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques,and delivery methods Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratorywithin college and departmental guidelines Plans, develops and uses a variety of teaching methods andmaterials that assist students in meeting course objectives andwhich are appropriate for students with differing educational andexperiential backgrounds and learning styles Evaluates students to measure their progress toward achievementof stated course objectives and informs them in a timely manner oftheir progress in the course Submits required college reports and forms Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student learningmaterials Maintains professional relationships with students, colleaguesand the community Provides access to students through posted office hours,electronic communication and other appropriate methods Responsible for professional development and institutionalservice as determined in consultation with the Dean Responsible for other reasonable related duties asassigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Mastery of course content Demonstrated leadership skills; style that emphasizescollaboration, teamwork, and facilitation Excellent oral and written communication skills andinterpersonal skills Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints; ability to workeffectively with a wide variety of people Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service andproviding a dynamic climate for life-long learning Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructionalapproaches such as service learning/civic engagement, learningcommunities, and the effective use of technology Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in theirlearning PHYSICAL ABILITIES: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably todo the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; ordriving an automobile. No special physical demands are required toperform the work. WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS: Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment, and any specialized equipment standard within thediscipline/industry Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or labenvironment with minimal exposure to safety hazards Hours will vary depending on class time; Instructors arerequired to meet with classes at all scheduled times and beavailable to students outside of class instruction REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree or higher in theoretical or applied biologyor life sciences or a master's degree or higher with 18 graduatecredit hours in theoretical or applied biology or lifesciences Salary Commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
