Inspector Position

We are looking for hard-working, reliable and safety minded individuals to join our team as an Inspector. As an Inspector you will be the first point of contact with our customers as they bring scrap materials into the yard. Your primary responsibilities will be inspecting and documenting customer loads and directing traffic to the proper collection site within the yard.

This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Responsibilities of an Inspector:

• Including but not limited to:

  Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.

  Communicates to customers the material grading process when the customer does not know or understand.

  Controls traffic in the yard. They use signals and loud verbal commands to direct traffic.

  Communicates with office and truck drivers to determine commodity drop-off location.

  Works independently while in the yard.

  Works with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise.

  Work with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.

  Clean up work area at the end of shift

  Keep work areas neat and orderly

  Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions

  Organizing materials to have more effective use of space

  Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner

  Inspection to ensure cleanup is completed

  Effective housekeeping in workplace area is an ongoing operation for safety and better hygienic conditions for all team members. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications of an Inspector:

Must pass a medical physical and drug test

Must pass a background check

Preferred high school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable

Ability to: communicate with others effectively; understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands

Previous experience purchasing metal a plus

Physical Requirements

Work Environment: Scrap metal Recycling and shredder yard

Equipment & Tools: Wire cutters, mechanics tools

Physical Demand Level: Moderate

Work Capacity: Lifting & carrying 35lb loads, head turning, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders and standing for long periods.

Sensory Demands: Hearing, vision, touch, smell and taste

Hand Movements: Repetitive motions, gripping
