Job Title: OR RN Profession: RN Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Four 10-hour shifts plus call Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Experience in total joints, robotics, general laparoscopic cases, urology, hand and foot, and breast reconstruction cases Description: Registered Nurses in the Operating Room are required to pass a skills exam during orientation. This is an open book exam, and all necessary resources will be provided to ensure success. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass; failure to achieve this will result in termination. The department has six surgical suites and handles over 400 cases per month. Common procedures include outpatient surgeries such as orthopedic, general, gynecological, robotic, plastic, ENT, urology, hand, foot, and breast reconstructions. The schedule is made by the OR supervisor with no self-scheduling or block scheduling options. The expected call schedule includes 6-7 weeknight shifts and 2-3 weekend shifts within the contract period. Staff must also be willing to take call on at least one holiday per year. There is a fingernail policy in effect, prohibiting artificial nails in patient care areas. In this role, the individual must expect to float within the Operating Room as needed. All staff are expected to have a strong work ethic, be efficient, and possess excellent attention to detail. Teamwork and good interpersonal skills are critical for success in this position. Staff must also be willing to accommodate changing shift requirements due to volume demands. No additional time off will be approved after the initial request, which should be limited to seven days or less per 13-week contract. The position does not require a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Each nurse will receive specific training to ensure compliance with department protocols.
