Surgical Technologist

The Surgical Technologist maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite. Intra-operative handling of instruments is required, as well as maintenance of the sterile field. Evaluation of changing conditions during surgical procedures is part of the role. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures. This position serves as a Preceptor, engaging with management and the education team on curriculum development. Essential functions include providing sterile instruments and supplies during the surgical procedure. Surgical sponge, needle, and instrument counts must be performed regularly. Case tables should be prepared with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments, and medications for each surgical case. Assisting in positioning patients for surgical procedures is required, ensuring protective positioning is maintained throughout the case. A sterile and safe environment must be created and maintained. An active role in preference card building and management through communication with surgeons is expected. Suggestions regarding instrument sets, including streamlining sets by removing or combining instruments, should be made. Engagement in case costing discussions with surgeons regarding product usage is essential. Cost savings suggestions and waste reduction on cases should be addressed.
