Job Summary:

Supports surgical procedures by preparing instruments and assisting surgeons, ensuring a sterile environment, and maintaining patient safety throughout the operation. Acts as a vital part of the surgical team to facilitate efficient and effective operative care.

Responsibilities:

• 
  Prepare and organize sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  
  
• 
  Assist surgeons by passing instruments and anticipating their needs during operations.
  
  
• 
  Verify patient identity and surgical site, ensuring proper consent documentation is in place.
  
  
• 
  Perform counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments prior to incisions and at closure to prevent retained surgical items.
  
  
• 
  Maintain a sterile field, assist with draping the patient, and ensure proper sterilization of instruments post-procedure.
  
  
• 
  Support room turnover and preparation for subsequent surgeries, including cleaning and re-sterilizing equipment.
  
  

Qualifications:

• 
  Hold an Associate Degree or Certificate of Program Completion in Surgical Technology.
  
  
• 
  Possess relevant acute care experience preferred.
  
  
• 
  Be certified by the National Board of Surgical Technologists or the Association of Surgical Technologists.
  
  
• 
  Maintain current BLS certification.
  
  
• 
  Have at least two years of recent surgical technology experience.
  
  
• 
  Possess valid licensure or certification as required by state regulations.
