Profile of a Natick Educator

JOB GOAL: The Interim Part-Time Director of School Nursing provides district-wide leadership, coordination, and oversight of school health services, ensuring equitable, safe, and legally compliant healthcare for all students.This role establishes a coherent, centralized model of nursing practice aligned with Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) regulations, Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) expectations, and best practices in school-based health.The Director of School Nursing utilizes a public health and systems-based approach to support student access to education by addressing health needs, promoting wellness, and ensuring consistent implementation of policies, procedures, and clinical practices across all schools.This is a 0.6 FTE. The Interim Director of School Nursing will not be assigned to provide routine direct nursing services within a school building and will focus on district-wide leadership, supervision, compliance, and program oversight responsibilities.

Salary: Compensation shall be paid at 0.6 of the Unit A salary schedule, plus the full Unit B Director of School Nursing stipend.

Work Year:

0.6 FTE position for FY27 consisting of 110 days (60% of a 183-day work year).Approved work days or hours outside of the 110 days would be compensated at a per diem rate.

Essential Functions

Leadership & Program Oversight

• Provide leadership and supervision to all district school nurses, ensuring high-quality, consistent health services across schools.
• Coordinate and manage the comprehensive school health program, including clinical care, prevention, and health education alignment.
• Develop and implement a district-wide vision for school health services grounded in equity, access, and student-centered care.
• Serve as a key liaison between the Office of Student Services, school administrators, and the district physician.
• Participate as a member of district leadership teams and interdisciplinary committees.

Policy, Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

• Lead the development, review, and implementation of school health policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with:
• Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71 Section 57 (mandated screenings)
• 105 CMR 210.000 (medication administration)
• Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines
• Federal and state health, safety, and privacy laws (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA where applicable)
• Oversee and manage:
• School-Based Medication Administration Program
• Delegation of medication protocols and emergency medication compliance
• Ensure all nursing practices meet ethical and professional standards.
• Serve in a leadership capacity on the district School Health Advisory Committee.

Clinical Coordination & Student Health Services

• Coordinate daily clinical operations to ensure effective, safe, and student-centered care.
• Collaborate with the district physician on:
• Standing orders
• Physical examinations
• Medical consultations and care planning
• Coordinate staffing coverage at all schools in the event of absences, planned or otherwise.

Public Health & Compliance Programs

• Oversee and submit data for mandated screening programs:
• Vision, hearing, BMI, postural, and SBIRT screenings
• Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and maintain accurate health records via the Electronic Medical Record.
• Lead district response to communicable diseases and infection control in collaboration with Mass Public Health and Natick Central Office.
• Monitor and ensure timely review and entry of immunization and health data, including summer compliance work.

Staff Supervision & Development

• Supervise, evaluate, and support all school nursing staff.
• Lead hiring, onboarding, and assignment of nursing personnel.
• Coordinate:
• CPR/AED and required certification trainings
• District-wide professional development for nurses
• Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluation aligned with district goals.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional learning.

Collaboration & Community Engagement

• Collaborate with:
• School administrators and educators
• Community health providers and agencies
• Local Boards of Health and advisory committees
• Strengthen partnerships that support student health, wellness, and access to care.
• Serve as a resource to families regarding health requirements, compliance, and support.

Program Management, Budgeting & Operations

• Develop and manage the school health services budget.
• Ensure all health offices are appropriately equipped and supplied.
• Monitor and support Medicaid reimbursement opportunities where applicable.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives and use data to evaluate program effectiveness.
• Maintain accurate reporting for district and state requirements.

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Maintain accurate student health records and ensure compliance with documentation standards.
• Analyze health data to identify trends, needs, and program improvements.
• Prepare reports for district leadership and state agencies.
• Lead continuous improvement efforts aligned with district priorities and student outcomes.
