Postdoctoral Research Associate – Food Microbiology Central State University seeks an experienced Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct laboratory and field research focused on foodborne pathogen contamination in fresh produce, especially in aquaponic and hydroponic systems. The role involves designing experiments, collecting and analyzing microbiological data, and contributing to food safety outreach and training programs. Essential Job Duties Design, execute, and supervise microbiological experiments across laboratory and field settings, including growth chambers, greenhouses, and field trials. Collect and analyze water and produce samples for microbial quality using culture, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and qPCR methods. Perform bioinformatics and statistical analysis of microbiome, biofilm, and pathogen data using SAS, R, or related software. Interpret experimental results, prepare manuscripts, and present findings at conferences and farmer seminars. Supervise undergraduate research assistants and coordinate lab technicians for media preparation, assay management, and quality control. Contribute to the development and improvement of food safety training programs, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidance. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Microbiology, Food Safety, Food Science & Technology, or related field. Strong background in food microbiology and experience with human pathogenic bacteria. Proficiency with molecular techniques and data analysis tools for microbiological research. Preferred Qualifications Experience researching water quality and environmental microbial systems. Demonstrated ability to lead research projects and supervise students. Knowledge of bioinformatics, SAS, and R‑Studio for data analysis. Employment Details • Full‑time position funded by an annual allocation from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) via the Evans Allen Program, with matching contributions from the State of Ohio. • Initial appointment for two years, subject to renewal based on performance and funding availability. • Comprehensive background check required for all applicants, including verification of education, employment history, and criminal history. • Applicant must possess a valid driver's license and authorization to work in the United States. #J-18808-Ljbffr
