Job Description
Our Organization
Department of Medicine, Division of Classical Hematology
Faculty Opportunities
We are inviting applications for faculty roles at the levels of Assistant, Associate Professor, or Professor.
The Division of Classical Hematology within the Department of Medicine at our organization is on the lookout for an outstanding candidate dedicated to a full-time academic career in classical hematology. This role encompasses both outpatient and inpatient responsibilities at our medical center, focusing on classical hematology. Responsibilities include providing consultations on intricate hemostasis and thrombosis cases, particularly in the context of advanced surgical procedures, organ transplants, and high-risk maternal-fetal medicine. Areas of academic focus that align well with our division's current objectives include, but are not limited to, thrombosis and malignancy, sickle cell disease and hemoglobinopathies, bleeding and thrombosis in women, and inherited platelet disorders.
For candidates interested in research, there is access to the well-established Pittsburgh Heart, Lung, and Blood Vascular Medicine Institute, which is led by a prominent expert in the field. This institute provides a unique setting for hematologists aiming to enhance patient care, engage in basic and translational research, and innovate at the crossroads of hematology, thrombosis, vascular biology, and cardiovascular medicine. Physicians will have the chance to be involved in pioneering translational research, investigator-led clinical trials, and multidisciplinary initiatives focused on thrombosis, hemostasis, sickle cell disease, pulmonary hypertension, cardio-oncology, and the vascular implications of cancer treatments, in collaboration with our cancer center.
We offer a robust research infrastructure, with funding from NIH, foundations, and private donations, as well as a NIH-supported T32 post-doctoral training grant. Our diverse referral population extends across Western Pennsylvania and beyond, fostering a culture that encourages innovation, mentorship, and professional growth.
The ideal candidate should exhibit excellence in patient care and possess a keen interest in an academic setting that provides exceptional opportunities for clinical practice, teaching, and research. There are numerous chances for interdisciplinary and translational research collaboration, along with teaching opportunities across all levels of medical education. Additionally, competitive start-up packages are available to support early and mid-career researchers.
Applicants must be eligible for or certified by the ABIM in Hematology or Hematology-Oncology. The faculty member will be expected to engage in the education and training of Hematology and Medical Oncology fellows, residents, and medical students, as well as contribute to the Division's annual Scientific Conferences. Our Division of Classical Hematology, in conjunction with the Division of Hematology-Oncology, has a combined fellowship program with a strong history of training fellows who have successfully transitioned to full-time academic roles and leadership positions in biotechnology firms.
Clinical responsibilities will include participation in the inpatient hematology consultation service, the outpatient non-malignant hematology clinic at our medical center, and the federally-funded Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania, which offers access to a wide range of clinical resources and advanced diagnostic tools.
Academic rank and compensation will be aligned with the candidate's experience. To apply, please submit your curriculum vitae and a letter of interest to the Interim Chief of Classical Hematology. Applications will be reviewed continuously upon receipt of all necessary documents.
