About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg Ortho RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 18 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Candidates must pass a written examination during orientation. - A minimum score of 90% is required to pass. - Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care departments. - Driver's license is required for all candidates. - Candidates must be flexible and self-directed. Description: The position focuses on providing care in a medical surgical setting. Typical patient cases include total knees, total hips, shoulder replacements, and various respiratory and chronic conditions. Patient care also includes IV infusions and management of wounds, dementia, oncology, fractures, and acute illnesses. There will be a charge nurse present on each shift who will also take an assignment. Patient care techs will assist with a patient-to-tech ratio of 1:10. Monitor technicians are located in ICU, while telemetry monitors are used throughout the unit. Self-scheduling options are available with a set requirement for weekend shifts every third weekend. Candidates should be prepared to float to other units as needed. The dress code requires navy blue scrubs. Candidates should be ready to engage in hourly rounding and bedside shift reporting. Those applying should demonstrate a willingness to adapt to change and a desire to learn. The primary patient population is generally from low to middle-class backgrounds, including those with mental health and addiction histories. Request for time off must be provided upfront, as additional requests will not be accommodated.
