Town of Riverdale Park, Maryland Communications Manager Office of Administrative Services Salary: $75,000 – $80,080 (DOQ) Total Compensation: Up to ~$134,000 (Salary + Benefits) Status: Full-Time, Exempt | Hybrid Eligible Make the Message Matter. Shape the Story. Serve the Community. The Town of Riverdale Park is seeking a strategic, hands-on Communications Manager to lead the Town's community engagement. This is more than a communications role—it’s a leadership position responsible for ensuring residents, businesses, and stakeholders receive clear, timely, and trusted information. What You’ll Do Lead and execute the Town’s communications and public engagement strategy Serve as the primary media contact and manage all public information requests, including MPIA Write, edit, and deliver high-quality content across all platforms—press releases, newsletters, website, and official communications Produce and oversee theTown Crierand digital communications (email, social media, website) Record and prepare official meeting minutes for Mayor & Council and Boards/Commissions Manage branding, messaging, and visual identity across all Town communications Coordinate marketing and outreach for Town programs, services, and initiatives Oversee multimedia production (video, photography, cable programming) Monitor engagement metrics and adjust strategies based on performance Build and maintain strong relationships with media, residents, businesses, and community stakeholders Support real-time communications during emergencies and critical incidents What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience) Minimum of five (5) years of professional communications, media relations, or public information experience Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills Experience managing digital platforms, websites, and social media Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure Strong judgment, discretion, and attention to detail What You Need to Know Valid driver’s license required CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required within 12 months Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during emergencies as needed Compensation & Benefits The Town offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package valued at approximately$54,000 annually, including: Employer-supportedhealth, dental, and vision insurance Retirement planwith employer contribution (defined benefit and/or defined contribution options) Employer-paidlife and disability insurance Paid leave(vacation, sick, and holidays) Professional development and trainingopportunities Flexible/hybrid work options Comprehensive insurance coverage, including workers’ compensation Work Environment This role operates in both office and field settings and requires regular presence throughout the community to support media coverage, public engagement, and on-site communications.
