Description: Candidates may not have been full time, part time, or PRN with any associated facility within the past year. The unit has 243 bays and trauma bays. There is a fast track and a separate triage area; travelers may occasionally be required to perform triage. There is no separate holding area in the ER; ER holds are intermixed within the ER. ER nurses care for their holds. There are no separate psych/seclusion rooms. In-house security is available. The average number of patients per day is 80-90. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 4. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and either PALS or ENPC. Common diagnoses include trauma, stroke, sepsis, CHF, and cardiac conditions. Unit staffing includes both charge nurses and house supervisors. Nurse aids, paramedics, and patient sitters also support the unit. The electronic medical record system used is Paragon. Respiratory therapy completes ABGs and breathing treatments. There are no monitor techs; RNs are required to know ECG rhythms. X-ray or CT services are available next to the emergency department. Phlebotomy is performed by either a tech or an RN. Shifts are self-scheduled and include various day and night options. Weekend requirements are every other week and holiday requirements are also every other week. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating requirements exist to units qualified for. Scrub color is navy. Unit-specific orientation is provided. The cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, and 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks.
