Warehouse Worker

This role is responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing materials, equipment, and other items within a stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard. You will help maintain accurate inventory records, ensure items are stored safely and efficiently, and support smooth day-to-day warehouse operations.

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming stock items, verify quantities, and accurately record data manually or using a computer system.
  • Count and reconcile stock items, comparing physical counts to inventory records and investigating discrepancies or correcting errors as needed.
  • Pack and unpack items for stocking on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards.
  • Store items in an orderly, accessible, and logical manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other designated areas.
  • Mark and label stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment to ensure clear identification.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure a safe, organized, and compliant work environment.
  • Maintain accurate records on the use, condition, and damage of stock and stock handling equipment.
  • Examine and inspect stock items for wear, defects, or damage and promptly report issues to supervisors.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and direction to other stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard workers as needed.
  • Determine proper storage methods, identification systems, and stock locations based on turnover, environmental conditions, and the physical capabilities of the facility.
  • Support packing, shipping, and receiving activities to ensure timely and accurate movement of goods.

Essential Skills

  • Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Clear written communication skills to complete inventory records and documentation accurately.
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability to investigate inventory discrepancies and resolve issues.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of relevant warehouse equipment, policies, and procedures.
  • Understanding of strategies and practices that support secure handling and storage of materials to protect people, data, property, and facilities.
  • Experience with packing, shipping, and receiving processes.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 57 years of experience in a warehouse, stockroom, or similar materials handling environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using computer systems or inventory software to record and track stock data.
  • Familiarity with labeling tools such as identification tags, stamps, or electric marking tools.
  • Experience maintaining clean, safe, and compliant storage areas.
  • Background in assisting or directing other warehouse or stockroom workers.
  • Ability to determine appropriate storage methods and locations based on product turnover and environmental factors.

Work Environment

This position is based in a warehouse or storage yard environment with regular work in stockrooms, tool rooms, and supply rooms. You will work primarily Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The role involves hands-on use of warehouse equipment, labeling tools, and computer systems for inventory recording. The work setting emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety regulations, with regular cleaning and maintenance of supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas.

This is a Contract position based out of Canton, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
