ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Red Springs High School, Red Springs, North Carolina Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Responsibilities MAJOR FUNCTION: Pre-Class Organization – Assists in implementing student orientation and registration activities. MAJOR FUNCTION: Planning the School Program – Assists in the development and establishment of school goals and objectives and the planning of the instructional program. MAJOR FUNCTION: Implementing the School Program – Provides direction to staff in implementing goals and objectives and meets with staff to assist in their development. MAJOR FUNCTION: Evaluating and Remediation the School Program – Assists in evaluating the school program and staff and initiates needed improvements. MAJOR FUNCTION: Involving the Staff in Budget Allocations – Involves staff in setting budget priorities. MAJOR FUNCTION: Keeping Professionally Competent – Upgrades own professional knowledge and skills. MAJOR FUNCTION: Coordinating Budgets and Schedules – Assists in preparing and managing budgets and schedules and in coordinating the implementation of the co‑curricular program. MAJOR FUNCTION: Handling Disciplinary Procedures – Defines and disseminates discipline policy and procedures to parents, students, staff, and community. MAJOR FUNCTION: Coordinating and Communicating the School’s Formal Structure – Communicates and carries out established policies, delegates responsibilities, and communicates program goals and policies to the community. MAJOR FUNCTION: Coordinating School Services and Resources – Supervises auxiliary services and uses community resources to supplement the school program. MAJOR FUNCTION: Facilitating Organizational Efficiency – Promotes open communication, positive student attitudes, respects dignity of staff and students, and complies with established lines of authority. MAJOR FUNCTION: Assisting in Record Keeping – Assists in completing records and reports and in supervising the inventory of supplies, textbooks, equipment, and materials. Minimum Training and Experience Master’s degree in Education Administration, 3 to 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Special Requirements Must possess a teaching certificate from the State of North Carolina. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Operate a variety of equipment and a motor vehicle, lift up to 10 pounds occasionally, and perform light work that requires walking or standing. Data Conception: Compare and judge functional or structural characteristics of data, people or things. Interpersonal Communication: Speak and/or signal people to convey information, including giving instructions or directions to subordinates or assistants. Language Ability: Read correspondence, reports, forms, charts, strategic plans, and prepare correspondence, reports, forms, and appraisals using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style; speak before groups with poise, voice control, and confidence. Intelligence: Apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form, and deal with abstract and concrete variables. Verbal Aptitude: Record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in Standard English. Numerical Aptitude: Use mathematical formulas, add, subtract, multiply, divide, use decimals and percentages, and apply principles of algebra, descriptive statistics, statistical inference, and statistical theory. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspect items for proper length, width, and shape. Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools with minimal eye/hand/foot coordination. Color Discrimination: Differentiate between colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament: Deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions; adapt to performing under stress and in emergency situations. Physical Communication: Talk and hear; communicate via telephone. Position Type: Full-Time Job Requirements Master’s degree preferred. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
