The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as a Portfolio Manageron the Inflation Sensitiveteam.

The Inflation Sensitive Unit was developed to improve diversification of the overall Investment Portfolio by seeking investment strategies and security types that would protect it against inflation, generate enhanced yield and provide stable cash flows. The unit’s portfolio is currently split between private investments in Infrastructure, Agriculture, and Timberland, and public investments such as U.S. TIPS and Commodities. The Inflation Sensitive Portfolio is a unique hybrid asset class of multiple asset types that will invest in a diversified portfolio of strategies and securities utilizing a mixture of both internal and external management. The unit will seek to lower CalSTRS overall portfolio volatility and positively capture long-term changes in inflation.

Under the general direction of the Director of Inflation Sensitive, the Portfolio Manager – Infrastructure will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of various investment program strategies and monitoring a designated portion of the Infrastructure/Inflation Sensitive portfolio. The Portfolio Manager will participate and lead others in transaction underwriting and function as a subject matter expert in portfolio management for infrastructure investments. The Portfolio Manager plays a significant role in recommending, developing, and implementing new and innovative investment policies and strategies and is expected to make significant contributions to the overall investment program decision making.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

• Experience with infrastructure and alternative investments
• Experience preparing investment recommendations and making formal presentations both written and verbal
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills
• Ability to effectively analyze information to reach supportable conclusions
• Experience prioritizing and ensuring deadlines are met
• Ability to research and analyze complex issues with strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
• Possession of a degree in business, finance, economics or other closely related field
• Possession of CFA, CAIA or similar professional certification

An incumbent who possesses a professional certification in one of the following designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential. Only one 5% base pay differential is eligible regardless of the number of certifications.

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

Working Conditions

CalSTRS offers a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions based on business needs.

All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.

This position requires a current Portfolio Manager examination . If you need to take the examination or if your score has expired, to gain list eligibility.

CalSTRS Personal Trading Program Investment Branch employees are required to participate in the CalSTRS Personal Trading Program which allows CalSTRS to monitor employees' personal trading transactions in order to reduce risks associated with insider trading, front running, and misusing material non-public information. Upon accepting a position within the Investment Branch, you will be required to disclose your personal broker account information and be required to utilize a personal broker from a designated list as provided by CalSTRS.

Background Investigation Prior to employment with CalSTRS, a background investigation (BI) will be conducted.
