Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.Department OverviewThe Field Engineer is responsible for the Implementation of complex communication system infrastructure and technical support of specialized sub-systems and product applications, This includes troubleshooting software-driven electronics, IP networks, server and network hardware, and performance verification and optimization of RF and broadband architecture including legacy analog, advanced digital P25, and data infrastructure.Motorola Solutions is a world leader in the field of professional mobile communications systems with an impressive heritage of technological innovations and a global base of installed systems. The group's main business is the implementation of mission-critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers.Job DescriptionResponsibilities include:Team with Engineering, Project Management, and Sales personnel to effectively design, implement, optimize, test, cutover, and document advanced communication systems that meet or exceed customer expectationsProvide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.Utilizes system design drawings, planners, and product documentation to oversee the onsite installation of network, server, and RF equipment. Provides as-built information for the final system documentation package.Utilizes network design tools, formalized process documents, and customer input to perform onsite and remote configuration of network, server, RF, and databases. Provides as-configured documentation and baseline reports.Utilizes system logs and tools to perform onsite and remote troubleshooting of networks, servers, databases, and RF infrastructure. Verifies system logs and event monitoring applications are clear of any faults.Utilizes product and system test plans to perform acceptance testing. Corrects any deficiencies found during testing. Provides accepted test results for the final system documentation package.Utilizes product specifications, FCC license data, and design parameters to perform performance verification/optimization of advanced digital and legacy analog RF infrastructure. Provides baseline measurement data and accepted test results for the final system documentation package.Utilizes project design drawings and customer current system information to design/develop solutions to difficult technical issues encountered as part of system implementation, upgrades, or support issues.Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with a focus on trend analysis and documentation of resultsPreferred Knowledge/Skills:Unique combinations of multi-site RF communications systems and computer/networking skills are required.Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN IP networks, and must be proficient in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems including cabling, routers, switches, and firewalls.Experience with installation, administration, and troubleshooting of:Server Virtualization, specifically with VMWare ESXi v.6+ and\or Microsoft Hyper-V 2012+Server Operating Systems, specifically Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012 R2 and 2019Workstation Operating Systems, specifically Windows 7 & 10Switches, routers, firewalls, specifically HP and JuniperKnowledge of secure products/protocols (KMF, KVL, AES)Knowledge of RF systems, such as transmitters, receivers, filters, and antenna networksExperience working on Project 25 products (trunked and conventional)Demonstrate systems experience and have related experience with the following equipment:Motorola base stations (Quantar, G-Series)Motorola consoles (MCC7500, AXS)Astro25 Master Site equipmentAstro 25 Multisite and ASR equipmentChannel Banks and T1 CircuitsKnowledge of standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet-switching techniquesExperience with logging recording systemsSkilled in the use of various communications test equipment including:Communication system analyzers (S412E LMR Master, Viavi 3920B)RF Power SensorEthernet test sets (Anritsu 9090A, VeeX MTX150, T-BERD 5800T1 test setsTIMS (Transmission Impairment Measurement Set)Experience with Motorola subscribers (APX, APX Next), and CPS programming softwareHighly computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, and Google G-Suite applicationsStrong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and partner community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service teamsSelf-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervisionAble to operate under stressful situations to resolve customer problems quicklyAdditional Skills:Must have excellent communication skills and always present a professional image.Must have a valid driver’s license and no traffic violationsMust be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customersWilling to travel extensively as needed (>75%)Ideally, the individual should have or be pursuing at least one industry network certification.
