Job Description

As a Repair Technician, you will play a crucial role in requalifying and recertifying rail cars. Your work will involve performing mechanical repairs and component replacements, ensuring the safety and functionality of railcars.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical repairs and replace components such as brake assemblies, shoes, uncoupling levers, gaskets, air hoses, train lines, couplers, draft gears, and yokes.
• Repair and replace braking systems, springs, and shocks.
• Repair, replace, or straighten structural components including side posts, rafters, crossties, panels, piping, grab irons, handholds, and still steps.
• Utilize welding torches, electric welders, impact wrenches, hydraulic bolt fasteners, pneumatic tools, and hand tools to weld, cut, burn, and fabricate steel components.
• Assemble, install, align, torque, and secure railcar and tank car components such as ladders, handrails, brake systems, and mechanical assemblies according to specifications and drawings.
• Remove damaged or worn components and assist with disassembly during repairs.
• Support shop operations including material handling, cleaning, and welding preparation.
• Stencil railcars, clean and prepare surfaces for painting, and complete finishing tasks as required.
• Maintain, repair, or replace air brake pipes, valves, fittings, and related parts.
• Perform pressure tests on completed repairs.

• Willing to Train individuals with experience as a millwright, welder, plumbing, construction, or farming experience!

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 6 months of experience in welding, torch cutting, plasma cutting, or mechanical work.
• Comfortable working around large equipment.
• Familiarity with welding on 1/2" thick material.
• Experience in replacing rings, seals, and cylinders.
• Ability to handle documentation in a heavily regulated industry

Work Environment

The role requires working comfortably around large tanker cars, bending under and working on catwalks for various tasks. The industrial setting is well-maintained and subject to audits 24/7. The work hours are Monday to Thursday from 6:30 AM to 5 PM, with most Fridays being optional. You will be notified in advance if mandatory work is required on Fridays.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Forks, ND.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $29.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Grand Forks,ND.
