Regional Transportation Planner (Senior Transportation Planner) A collaborative, equity-minded planner to join the Transit Service & Strategy team in shaping Seattle’s transit network through integrated planning with regional agencies. Responsibilities Provide subject-matter expertise on transit service integration across SDOT divisions and regional agencies. Coordinate analysis and implementation of complex interdisciplinary transit projects of strategic importance. Act as SME while reviewing legally required development documents such as Major Institution Master Plans, Transportation Management Plans, and Environmental Impact Statements. Staff regional policy committees and support SDOT staff and City Councilmembers in decision‑making. Develop and coordinate reviews of transit policies within SDOT, the City, and external transit agencies. Review regional transit agency policies to determine City policy impacts; share findings via memos, reports, and presentations. Monitor and report planned changes to regional bus service networks, advocating Seattle residents’ interests. Respond to citizen inquiries regarding SDOT’s transit policies and programs. Create memo briefings and deliver formal presentations to the public, SDOT leadership, regional peers, and elected officials. Represent the department on technical committees in comprehensive transportation planning. Review future Link station area plans and determine bus station design needs. Analyze impacts of federal and state legislative proposals on transit. Assist in creating and updating Metropolitan Transportation Plans, Transportation Improvement Programs, and other long‑range documents. Support department goals in promoting diversity and social justice. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geography, Political Science, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, or a related field. Three (3) years of transportation planning or development experience. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties. Strong candidates may have additional experience in reviewing EIS, MIMP documents, project plans in Blue Beam, spatial data analysis, graduate degrees in related fields, strong communication, collaborative approach, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills. Other Requirements Work is typically performed in a hybrid environment: minimum 3 days in a City office, 2 days remote, within a 40‑hour week. May need to attend evening public meetings or perform site visits. License Current Washington State driver’s license or equivalent mobility. Salary The City’s full salary range for this position is $60.55 – $70.40 per hour.
