Communications Associate

Role

Mountain States Legal Foundation (MSLF) is seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Communications Associate to support the organization’s communications, marketing, and storytelling efforts. This role will play a key part in expanding MSLF’s public presence by creating compelling multimedia content, managing digital platforms, producing podcast episodes, and developing communications materials that explain complex constitutional issues to supporters, media, and the public. 

The ideal candidate is a skilled storyteller with experience in photography, videography, graphic design, social media management, and written communications. This individual should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple projects, and collaborating with attorneys, development staff, and organizational leadership to advance MSLF’s mission.

Responsibilities

Content Creation & Multimedia Production (40%)

• Produce professional photography and videography for attorneys, staff, events, donor initiatives, organizational campaigns, and media opportunities.
• Plan, create, and edit long-form and short-form multimedia content for social media, fundraising, podcasts, websites, and other digital platforms.
• Collaborate with attorneys and leadership to identify timely legal victories, Supreme Court developments, constitutional issues, and other newsworthy topics to develop and film compelling digital content.
• Produce and manage podcast and video projects, including hosting, guest coordination, scheduling, recording, editing, and publication across digital platforms.
• Design digital graphics, marketing materials, and branded assets
• Develop promotional content, including graphics, video clips, and other digital assets
• Coordinate and execute media days, including professional headshots, holiday campaigns, and promotional video production.
• Maintain, organize, and manage MSLF’s digital asset library, ensuring media files are properly archived and easily accessible.

Social Media & Digital Marketing (30%)

• Manage MSLF’s social media platforms, including content planning, scheduling, publishing, and community engagement.
• Develop creative digital campaigns designed to increase brand awareness, expand audience reach, and strengthen supporter engagement.
• Monitor social media analytics and prepare performance reports with recommendations for improvement.
• Stay informed on emerging digital trends, platform updates, and best practices to develop innovative content strategies.

Communications & Copywriting (20%)

• Write and edit donor communications, email campaigns, newsletters, website content, and promotional materials.
• Transform complex constitutional litigation and legal issues into clear, compelling stories that engage supporters and the public.
• Assist with drafting press releases, announcements, attorney biographies, and organizational updates.
• Ensure consistency in messaging, voice, and branding across all communications channels.

Project Management & Organizational Support (10%)

• Manage multiple creative projects simultaneously while maintaining deadlines and quality standards.
• Collaborate with attorneys, development staff, leadership, and third-party contractors to execute communications initiatives.
• Maintain communications calendars, content schedules, and production timelines.
• Support communications needs for organizational events, conferences, fundraising campaigns, and special projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, media production, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in communications, digital media, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
• Strong photography and videography skills, including experience filming and editing professional-quality content.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, or similar design and editing tools.
• Experience managing social media platforms and developing digital campaigns.
• Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
• Ability to understand and communicate complex topics in a clear and engaging way.
• Experience with podcast production, audio/video editing, or on-camera hosting preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail, creativity, and a collaborative mindset.

Employment Type: Full-Time; Exempt

Compensation Package: Salary is commensurate with experience in the range of $50-55K. MSLF’s compensation package includes a 403(b)-retirement plan (employer match up to 4%), generous health benefits, an employer-paid dental plan, vacation and sick days, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
