Overview Financial Counselor We are seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Financial Counselor to help patients understand their insurance benefits and financial responsibilities.This roleis responsible forinsurance verification, financial counseling, upfront collections, payment arrangements, andmaintainingaccuratepatient financial records. The ideal candidate combines strong financial counseling andcollectionsexpertisewith a genuine desire to help others. Because this is a patient-facing role within a behavioral health environment, we are seeking someone whodemonstrates compassion, empathy, patience, and emotional intelligence whileassistingpatients through challenging situations.Three years of collecting experience isrequiredfor thisrole,five years is preferred. Responsibilities Verify insurance benefits and audit admission paperwork for accuracy and completeness. Review and update patient demographic and insurance information in the patient accounting system. Counsel patients and guarantorsregardinginsurance coverage, benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and payment options. Collect deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and other patient balances. Complete financialassistanceapplications and verify income and expense documentation. Prepare charity care, administrative adjustment requests, and payment arrangements as needed. Maintain collection, charity, and adjustment logs and review activity with leadership. Analyze account information and takeappropriate actionto supporttimelypayment and reimbursement. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. 3+ years of experience in healthcare financial counseling, patient access, billing, ora relatedfieldrequired. Extensive knowledge of Commercial Insurance, Medicare, and Medicaidrequired. Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to explain complex insurance and financial information to patients and families.
