Job Description

This role focuses on MIG welding and fabrication in a production environment, working from engineering drawings and bills of materials to produce high-quality welded components. You will support both panel and tank welding operations, adjust welding equipment for different material thicknesses, and assist in other areas of the fabrication department as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on steel components in accordance with engineering drawings and bills of materials.
• Read and interpret blueprints to determine welding requirements, dimensions, and fabrication details.
• Adjust welding equipment to accommodate varying thicknesses of steel and ensure proper weld quality.
• Fabricate components using welding, cutting, drilling, and related fabrication techniques.
• Operate welders, grinders, drills, and a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
• Use measuring devices to verify dimensions and ensure components meet specifications and tolerances.
• Perform panel welding involving basic straight-line welds in the panel welding department, as assigned.
• Perform tank welding requiring vertical, horizontal, and overhead welds in the tank welding department, as assigned.
• Operate an overhead crane and forklift when certified, following all safety procedures.
• Multi-task between welding and other fabrication department duties to support production needs.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
• Inspect welds and fabricated parts for defects and make necessary adjustments or repairs.

Essential Skills

• Proficient MIG welding skills with the ability to produce consistent, high-quality welds.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Experience working from a bill of materials to fabricate and weld components.
• Hands-on experience in metal fabrication, including cutting, fitting, and assembly.
• Ability to perform vertical, horizontal, and overhead welds for tank welding assignments.
• Skilled in operating welders, grinders, drills, and common hand and power tools.
• Ability to use measuring devices accurately to verify part dimensions.
• Capability to adjust welding equipment for different steel thicknesses.
• Ability to multi-task and move between welding and other fabrication tasks as needed.
• Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• MIG welding experience in a production or fabrication environment.
• Blueprint reading skills for fabrication and welding projects.
• Prior experience in panel welding and/or tank welding is beneficial.
• D1.1 welding certification required for tank welder positions.
• D1.3 welding certification is a plus for tank welders and considered a bonus qualification.
• Experience working with heavier gauge, galvanized steel is an advantage.
• Certification and experience operating an overhead crane and forklift are preferred.
• Comfort working in a structured fabrication environment with set shifts and overtime.
• Willingness to work in different departments (panel welding and tank welding) as needed.

Work Environment

You will work in a fabrication and welding environment that includes both panel welding and tank welding departments. The role involves operating MIG welders, grinders, drills, hand and power tools, and using measuring devices to verify quality. Where applicable and certified, you may also operate an overhead crane and forklift. Panel welding is located in a building that operates two shifts: a first shift from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM with overtime opportunities, and a third shift from 6:00 PM to 2:30 AM with overtime available until 4:30 AM. Tank welding involves heavier gauge, galvanized steel at a dedicated facility. All necessary tools are provided by the company, and you will work in a modern facility designed to support efficient, safe production. The environment can be warm in the summer, consistent with an active fabrication and welding shop.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Machesney Park, IL.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
