About The Position

Serves as 317's primary storyteller and journalist—a dynamic, intuitive, entrepreneurial presence who can spot the stories and opportunities unfolding across campus in real time, capture them, and shape them into compelling external-facing content. Translates the life of the organization (education, events, performances, community programs, and more) into work that builds brand equity and deepens public connection to 317's people and mission, in line with the Strategic Plan.

Key Responsibilities

• Partners with the ED to develop a content calendar grounded in the institution's programming rhythm—classes, jams, performances, events, and campus milestones—so that storytelling is planned, not purely reactive.
• Stays attuned to the ongoing life of campus and moves quickly to capture it, recording raw photo, video, and written content from beginner lessons and youth ensembles to open jams, artist residencies, concerts, and community gatherings, and then shapes that raw material into finished, platform-ready pieces: graphics, reels, copywriting, captions, and more.
• Develops a deep understanding of the students, organizations, musicians, educators, and stakeholders who make up 317, and tells their stories in ways that build engagement, attendance, and support across the organization's core priorities.
• Manages 317's core digital ecosystem—website, email newsletters, and social media—with a clear understanding of how the three work together rather than as separate channels, translating calendar-driven content into a coherent presence across platforms: platform-appropriate social posts, stories, and campaigns; newsletters and public-facing digital communications for the full community (students, families, donors, and the broader public); and consistent messaging that carries across all three, with an eye toward emerging platforms as the landscape shifts.
• Supports design and layout of printed and digital materials: event programs, class schedules, donor stewardship pieces, and annual reports.
• Works with the ED and Relationship Strategist to ensure that public storytelling and donor cultivation communications reinforce each other, so the story a donor hears in a meeting matches the story our communities see online.
• Maintains 317's website with current programming, event listings, and mission-forward content as the organization's public face.
