The Quality Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the Quality Management System (QMS) for a manufacturing facility specializing in the refurbishment of gas turbine power generation equipment. Provide leadership for all quality assurance and quality control activities associated with the repair, refurbishment, assembly, inspection, testing, and documentation of gas turbines, generators, auxiliary skids, and components manufactured by multiple internal and external suppliers. Ensure compliance with customer specifications, applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company quality objectives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Primary Duties
- Develop, implement, and maintain the facility's Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 or equivalent quality standards.
- Lead all Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) activities throughout manufacturing, refurbishment, repair, assembly, inspection, and testing processes.
- Establish quality policies, procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, and process controls to ensure consistent product quality.
- Manage quality requirements for the refurbishment of:
- Industrial gas turbines
- Steam turbines (as applicable)
- Electric generators
- Auxiliary skids and balance-of-plant equipment
- Mechanical and electrical components
- Vendor-manufactured fabrications and machined components
- Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspections to verify compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Lead supplier quality initiatives including qualification, audits, performance monitoring, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.
- Review manufacturing and repair documentation, inspection reports, material certifications, non-destructive examination (NDE) reports, and final quality records.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory codes.
- Manage internal and external quality audits, customer audits, and third-party certification audits.
- Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, Five Why, Fishbone, or similar techniques.
- Implement and monitor Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) programs.
- Analyze quality metrics, identify trends, and develop improvement initiatives that reduce defects, rework, and warranty costs.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Project Management, and Operations to resolve technical quality issues.
- Ensure calibration and control of inspection, testing, and measuring equipment.
- Manage Material Review Board (MRB) activities and disposition of nonconforming materials.
- Develop quality objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs), reporting performance to executive leadership.
- Lead and mentor quality engineers, inspectors, technicians, and document control personnel.
- Promote a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Working Relationships
Reports to VP, PM/SC/IT and collaborates with Engineered Performance peers and management.
Compensation
The initial compensation is $123,500 to $142,050 based on experience and qualifications.
Job Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, industrial technology, quality management or a related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent.
- Years of Experience:
- Eight years of progressive quality management experience within manufacturing, heavy industrial equipment, rotating equipment, power generation, aerospace, or related industries.
- Five years in a leadership or management role.
- Experience developing, implementing, and managing Quality Management Systems in an ISO 9001 or comparable quality environment.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, repair, or refurbishment of large industrial equipment.
- Experience leading internal, customer, and certification audits.
- Preferred Experience:
- Experience in gas turbine, generator, or power generation equipment refurbishment.
- Experience with welding quality requirements, NDE methods, pressure systems, and precision machining
- Licenses/Certification:
- ASQ Certified Quality Manager (CMQ/OE), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) (preferred)
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification (preferred)
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification (preferred)
- Software/Equipment Knowledge:
- Gas turbine refurbishment processes, generator overhaul and repair, precision machining and fabrication, and welding inspection and quality requirements.
- Mechanical assembly and testing, and electrical testing and inspection.
- Root Cause Analysis, CAPA, FMEA, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Risk-based thinking, Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma methodologies
- ERP & Quality Management software SAP, Oracle, IFS (preferred)
- Other Considerations:
- Strong understanding of supplier quality management and multi-vendor fabrication oversight.
- Strong technical interpretation skills for engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Working knowledge of Non-destructive examination (NDE) processes.
- Familiarity with Supplier quality systems, material traceability, configuration management, manufacturing process controls and document control systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
This position is based within a heavy industrial manufacturing facility and requires daily presence on the production floor. The role involves frequent interaction with production personnel, engineering, quality, planning, project management, customers, and suppliers. Occasional travel to customer sites, vendor facilities, or field service locations to support projects.
Normal working hours are 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday. Extended hours may be required based on specific requirements. Work at facilities can occur around industrial hazards, in areas of high noise levels, and around new construction. Physical mobility to transverse stairways, ladders, grating, and uneven terrain are essential. Ability to see, hear, read, and react to warning signs, lights, and alarms are essential.
Fit for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
