Certified Surgical Technologist

Job Summary:

The Certified Operating Room Technician (CST) provides skilled support in surgical services within a short-term acute care hospital setting. This role involves assisting in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, managing instruments, and ensuring a sterile environment. The CST collaborates closely with surgical teams to facilitate efficient and safe patient care. On-call and weekend shifts are required to meet departmental needs. Responsibilities:

• Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by setting up instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
• Assist surgical staff during operations by passing instruments and anticipating needs.
• Maintain sterile fields and ensure adherence to infection control protocols.
• Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment after procedures.
• Manage inventory and restock surgical supplies as necessary.
• Document surgical activities and maintain accurate records using Epic charting system.
• Respond promptly to on-call duties and adjust shifts to cover weekend requirements as needed.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) by NBSTSA.
• Experience in a surgical services environment, preferably in short-term acute care.
• Knowledge of sterile techniques and operating room protocols.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical setting.
• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.
• Willingness and ability to fulfill on-call and weekend shift requirements.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in multiple surgical units or specialties.
• Additional certifications related to surgical technology or perioperative nursing.
• Familiarity with micro biology or laboratory protocols for surgical support roles.

Special Considerations:

• On-call duty: Weekday call 16 hours every 4 weeks and weekend call 24 hours every 4 weeks.
• Weekend shifts are mandatory and may replace weekday shifts as department needs dictate.
• 48-hour shifts are not approved.
• Must comply with hospital dress code: scrub colors vary by unit, with lab coats provided for certain roles.

Scheduling:

• Shift assignments include weekdays and weekends with required on-call rotations.
• No block scheduling; floating between units as needed.
• Weekend shifts required in lieu of weekday shifts when necessary.
