Title: QA Technician – Energy Storage System

Reports to:  Manager, ESS System QA

 

Location:  Phoenix, AZ

Work Arrangement :  Onsite

Employment Type:  Full-Time

Employment Classification:  Non-Exempt

Schedule:  Day shift (6AM-6PM) / Night shift (6PM-6AM) 

This position may require rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended hours based on business needs. Work schedules will be administered in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Summary:

The QA Technician is a hands-on quality role supporting the manufacturing of containerized Energy Storage Systems (ESS) used in grid-scale energy storage applications. This position is responsible for performing in-process quality inspections and audits, verifying product compliance with engineering specifications, identifying and analyzing defects, creating analysis reports, and supporting quality issue resolution before products are released for shipment.

Working closely with production teams, engineers, and quality personnel, the Technician helps ensure products consistently meet customer requirements, company quality standards, and regulatory expectations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

 

Responsibilities:

• Perform in-process and final quality inspections on related components throughout manufacturing.
• Identify defects, abnormalities, and nonconforming conditions, and initiate appropriate containment activities. 
• Support root cause investigations and corrective actions to improve product quality and manufacturing processes. 
• Perform voltage measurement testing utilizing measurement equipment in the Plant and Field (outdoors) for data analysis and judgement.
• Audit the manufacturing process for meeting engineering drawings, Bills of Material (BOM), work instructions, and quality specifications.
• Inspect mechanical and electrical assemblies for proper installation, alignment, orientation, workmanship, and overall product quality.
• Perform visual inspections and verify product completeness prior to assembly / shipment.
• Document inspection results, quality findings, and nonconformances using quality systems, inspection checklists, and production records. 
• Escalate quality concerns promptly to Quality Engineers and Quality / Production leadership using factual inspection data. 
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, productivity, and manufacturing stability.
• Conduct workplace inspections, compliance evaluations, and audits to ensure adherence to applicable regulations and standards
• Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards: 

1. Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain

2. Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container

• Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required 
• Associate degree or technical training in Manufacturing, Quality, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field is preferred. 
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 
• Capable of working in wide variety of environmental conditions (high temperature environments)

Experience:

• 3+ years of experience as a Quality Technician, Quality Inspector, Manufacturing Technician, or similar role in a manufacturing environment. 
• Experience performing in-process, final, or outgoing quality inspections (OQC). 
• Experience inspecting mechanical and/or electrical assemblies and verifying products against work instructions or engineering specifications. 
• Experience in battery, automotive, aerospace, semiconductor, or other advanced manufacturing industries is preferred.

• Ability to inspect mechanical and electrical assemblies for proper workmanship, alignment, orientation, hardware installation, and product completeness. 
• Basic understanding of engineering drawings, Bills of Material (BOM), and manufacturing documentation. 
• Ability to accurately document inspection results and maintain quality records. 
• Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment when identifying and escalating quality concerns. 
• Effective communication skills with production teams, engineers, supervisors, and cross-functional partners. 
• Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity during shift operations. 
• Adaptability to a start-up manufacturing environment where processes continue to evolve. 
• Commitment to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality products. 
• Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus.

Working Condition:

• Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment, with occasional outdoor work as required to support production and quality activities while wearing safety PPE. (Exposure to heat)
• Travel Requirements: Domestic travel required approximately 1-2 times per month, typically for 5-10 days per trip. Travel dates and locations will vary based on business needs.
• Must be able to safely work around electrical equipment, mechanical systems, powered industrial equipment, and large battery energy storage products.

Physical Requirement: This position is performed in a high-volume manufacturing environment and is considered physically demanding.

• Stand and walk for up to 12-hour shifts , excluding scheduled breaks.
• Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Safely climb, descend, and work from ladders and elevated work platforms when required.
• Safely use hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and other manufacturing equipment.
• Work safely around moving machinery and automated production equipment.
• Maintain focus and productivity while working in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment with demanding production schedules.
• Adapt to changing production priorities while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including Hard-hat, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and any additional PPE required for the assigned work area.
