TITLE: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner


LOCATION: Tucson, Arizona (Davis-Monthan Air Force Base)


HOURS: Day Business Hours


QUALIFICATIONS:

• A permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner. License cannot be under investigation nor have any adverse action pending from a State Board or national licensing/certification agency. May be licensed in any of the 50 states.
• A minimum of 24 months of experience in a mental health care setting within the last 36 months.
• Board Certified (PMHCNS-BC) or ANCC American Nurses Credentialing Center- Psychiatric Designation.
• Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited School of Nursing at the time of graduation.
• Nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

RESPONSIBILITIES: include, but not limited to:

• Provide advanced, comprehensive psychiatric nursing care for a variety of behavioral health patients, including airmen, their families, and retirees (ages 18-65), in accordance with MTF privileges.
• Perform intake procedures and complete comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning.
• Deliver individual therapy, family therapy, crisis intervention, and medication management as clinically indicated.
• Prescribe medications in accordance with scope of practice and provide consultation to staff and families regarding treatment and medication concerns.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team to develop, implement, and evaluate patient-centered treatment plans.
• Conduct patient observations to identify significant behavioral and reaction patterns and adjust care accordingly.
• Interview patients and/or family members to obtain and document clear, accurate psychiatric and medical histories.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., laboratory, psychological, neurological) and implement appropriate, cost-effective treatment and follow-up care.
• Coordinate care across services, ensuring effective communication between providers, programs, caregivers, and support systems.
• Complete evaluations, consultations, referrals, and all required documentation in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards.
• Promote preventive care and health maintenance through education, counseling, and support of positive health behaviors and self-care skills.
• Participate in staff meetings, case discussions, training, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a clinical resource, role model, and consultant to staff in psychiatric care and education.
• Adhere to infection control standards and utilize universal precautions in all patient encounters.
• Perform medical procedures within credentials and scope of practice and refer patients to appropriate specialties as needed.
• Maintain responsibility for the quality of care delivered to assigned patients.

Job responsibilities are subject to change to meet Military Treatment Facility requirements. Additional immunization record, security and background check requirements are also considered as qualifying criteria.
