Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Food Service Manager

Position Description Summary

Responsible for the preparation of all center meals in accordance with pre-planned menus.

Essential Functions

1. Prepares quantity of food according to menu and number of students, staff, and/or guests expected.

2. Instructs Cook Helpers and student trainees in safe, hygienic methods of preparing and serving appetizing, eye-appealing meals.

3. Responsible for stockroom commodities and recommending replenishment items.

4. Maintains kitchen equipment in orderly workable condition. Ensures work area is safe, clean, and sanitary at all times.

5. Prepares foods as directed for special center functions, visitors, and off-center work experience assignments.

6. Assists in cleaning kitchen work areas and other areas as needed following each meal.

7. Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.

8. Acts as a responsible custodian for the assigned center property.

9. Reports violations of ethical behavior.

10. Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste.

11. Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

Required Education & Experience

 One year of food services training experience

 Experience working with youth

Position Description - Certifications/Competencies

 Valid food handler’s certificate in the center’s state

 Ability to cook for programs and activities held in the cafeteria

 Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions

 Strong organizational skills

 Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 Computer proficiency Minimum Eligibility Qualifications

 If position requires driving, a valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required

 I-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States

 Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background check
