Position Summary

The Hut’s Jamaican & Caribbean Restaurant is seeking friendly, dependable, energetic, and customer-focused individuals to join our team as Hostess/Waitstaff .

This position is responsible for welcoming guests, managing the dining area, taking accurate orders, delivering food and beverages, checking on guests, and helping create the lively and welcoming experience that customers expect at The Hut.

The ideal candidate is professional, attentive, comfortable communicating with different personalities, and able to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced restaurant and entertainment environment.

Hostess Responsibilities

• Greet every guest warmly and professionally upon arrival.
• Assist guests with seating and manage the flow of the dining area.
• Provide menus and notify waitstaff when guests have been seated.
• Answer basic questions about the restaurant, menu, events, and wait times.
• Manage reservations, call-ahead seating, and guest lists when applicable.
• Answer the restaurant telephone professionally and accurately communicate information.
• Keep the entrance, host area, waiting area, and menus clean and organized.
• Monitor tables and communicate seating availability to the team.
• Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
• Assist with takeout orders, packaging, or cashier responsibilities when needed.

Waitstaff Responsibilities

• Welcome guests and introduce yourself promptly.
• Provide menus and explain menu items, specials, beverages, and available substitutions.
• Take accurate food and beverage orders.
• Enter orders correctly into the point-of-sale system.
• Communicate special requests and food concerns clearly to the kitchen.
• Deliver food, beverages, condiments, utensils, and requested items to guests.
• Check each order before taking it to the table.
• Check on guests throughout their dining experience without being disruptive.
• Refill beverages and respond promptly to guest requests.
• Present checks and process cash and credit-card payments accurately.
• Assist with takeout and delivery orders when needed.
• Clean, sanitize, reset, and prepare tables for incoming guests.
• Complete assigned opening, closing, cleaning, and restocking duties.
• Assist other team members during busy service periods.

Customer-Service Expectations

• Create a welcoming and positive experience for every guest.
• Speak respectfully and professionally to guests, coworkers, entertainers, and management.
• Remain patient and solution-focused when handling guest concerns.
• Notify management immediately when a guest issue cannot be resolved.
• Never argue with a guest or discuss internal restaurant concerns in front of customers.
• Maintain awareness of the dining room and respond when guests need assistance.
• Know the menu well enough to answer common questions and make recommendations.
• Represent The Hut professionally both inside and outside of the restaurant.

Compensation

This is a tipped position.

• Employees will receive a direct wage of $4.00 per hour plus tips during tipped shifts.
• Employees may also receive their eligible portion of distributed gratuities or service charges, when applicable.
• On designated shifts or workdays when the position is not eligible to receive tips or gratuities, employees will be paid $7.25 per hour .
• The Hut will ensure that the employee’s direct wages and eligible tips equal at least the applicable minimum wage for all hours worked.
• If the employee’s wages and eligible tips do not reach the applicable minimum wage, The Hut will pay the required difference.
• Tips and gratuities may vary depending on customer volume, events, scheduling, and the level of service provided.
• Tips are not guaranteed.

Required Qualifications

• Previous restaurant, hospitality, hosting, serving, cashier, or customer-service experience is preferred.
• Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be comfortable interacting with guests and handling customer concerns professionally.
• Must be able to accurately take orders, handle payments, and follow instructions.
• Must be dependable, punctual, coachable, and willing to work as part of a team.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes loud environment.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Must be able to safely carry food trays, beverages, dishes, and restaurant supplies.
• Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, and entertainment nights as scheduled.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Appearance and Professionalism

• Arrive on time, properly dressed, and ready to work at the scheduled time.
• Maintain a clean and professional appearance.
• Follow all uniform and grooming requirements.
• Avoid excessive personal phone use while working.
• Do not eat, sit, or socialize with guests while on the clock unless authorized by management.
• Maintain professional boundaries with guests and coworkers.
• Do not consume alcohol while working.
• Follow all restaurant policies, safety procedures, and management instructions.

Performance Expectations

• Provide attentive and consistent service.
• Maintain accurate orders and payments.
• Keep assigned tables and service areas clean.
• Remain productive during slower periods by cleaning, restocking, and assisting the team.
• Communicate scheduling concerns as early as possible.
• Complete all assigned duties before leaving.
• Do not leave the shift, dining area, or assigned section without management approval.
• Help create a safe, enjoyable, and welcoming atmosphere for guests and coworkers.

Base Pay: $4.00 per hour plus tips during tipped shifts
Non-Tipped Pay: $7.25 per hour during designated non-tipped shifts
