Front Load Driver Job Description

Position Summary

The Front Load Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient collection of commercial waste and recycling materials using a front-load garbage truck. This role requires operating specialized equipment, servicing dumpsters on assigned routes, and maintaining a high level of customer service while adhering to all safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a front load garbage truck to service commercial containers on a designated route
• Safely approach, lift, and empty dumpsters using hydraulic arms
• Follow all DOT , OSHA, and company safety policies always
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle
• Report on mechanical issues or safety concerns immediately
• Ensure proper placement of dumpsters after service
• Maintain route efficiency and meet daily service expectations
• Communicate with dispatch regarding route progress, delays, or issues
• Interact professionally with customers when needed
• Keep cab and equipment clean and organized

Qualifications

• Valid CDL (Class B or A) with air brake endorsement
• Clean driving record
• Previous experience operating front load or heavy equipment (preferred)
• Ability to work early mornings and long hours as needed
• Strong awareness of surroundings and safety hazards
• Basic mechanical knowledge is a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving
• Frequent climbing in and out of the truck
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
• Ability to work in all weather conditions
• Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception

Work Environment

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Exposure to noise, dust, odors, and waste materials
• Fast-paced, route-based work environment

Safety Expectations

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures
• Wear required PPE at all times
• Maintain safe driving habits and defensive driving practices
• Immediately report accidents, injuries, or near misses

Performance Expectations

• Complete assigned route daily
• Maintain low incident/accident rate
• Provide reliable and consistent service
• Demonstrate professionalism and teamwork

Preferred Skills

• Experience with automated or front load trucks
• Route knowledge and navigation skills
• Strong time management and independence
